About UpDraft Engineering

Democratizing engineering education for the next generation

Our Story

UpDraft Engineering was founded on a simple belief: every young person, regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to explore engineering and technology. Too often, these fields feel inaccessible, reserved for those with the right resources or connections.

We're changing that. Our hands-on engineering series brings practical education directly to students, complete with all materials and equipment needed. From building custom projects to expert insights from the industry leaders, we make engineering tangible, exciting, and achievable.

What We Do

UpDraft Engineering offers an intensive, project-based curriculum that covers:

  • Engineering Fundamentals - Explore different engineering disciplines and real-world applications
  • Hands-On Building - Create physical projects like solar ovens, biomedical hands, and robotics kits
  • Software Engineering - Learn to code through interactive platforms like Scratch and Code.org
  • Professional Mentorship - Connect with working engineers through guest speakers and panels
  • Independent Projects - Design and build your own engineering project with our support
  • Career Pathways - Understand college requirements and career opportunities in STEM fields

Our Commitment

100% Free

No costs to participate. All materials and tools, and computers are provided at no charge. We recommend that students bring their own computer if they have access to one, however.

Inclusive Access

We provide computers to students who need them, ensuring technology is never a barrier.

Quality Education

Expert instruction and a proven curriculum designed for real learning.

Long-term Support

Mentorship opportunities and resources extend beyond the program, with more exciting opportunities in the future.

Why Engineering Education Matters

Engineering isn't just about building things—it's about solving problems, thinking creatively, and making the world better. The skills students learn in our program go far beyond technical knowledge:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Collaboration and teamwork
  • Resilience through trial and error
  • Confidence to tackle complex challenges
  • Understanding of design and social impact

These are life skills that serve students in any career path they choose.
